From Sushmita Sen To Manushi Chhillar Terrific Answers Given By Indian Beauty Pageant Winners That Got Them The Crown

When it comes to international beauty pageants, Indian women have always shined bright. If you think about the strong patriarchal and misogynistic society that prevailed back then, you can imagine how difficult it must have been for Indian women to even dream about beauty contests. Even if things are bad today as well, some girls are fortunate enough to be born into families who have faith in their abilities and aspirations. And that is exactly why India could bring home the sparkly crowns once in a few years at least. These women and their support systems are truly winners even before they win the titles because they first fight against all the hurdles that are within and around them. And the performance of these women proves that they are definitely worth the titles they were honored with.

Unlike many believe, beauty pageants aren’t just about looks or having a perfect body. To become a Miss Universe or a Miss World, a woman has to be an all-rounder— a beauty with brains, heart, and soul. In this article, we’ll meet some of the extraordinary Indian women who have won our hearts and the crown by giving spectacular answers during their final question-answer rounds.

1. Sushmita Sen

Sushmita Sen might be known to many of you through Bollywood, but for the 80s kids, she was an epitome of grace and intelligence. After winning the Femina Miss India contest in 1994, she represented India at the Miss Universe International contest. Introducing herself as someone who loves poetry and not very much into people, Sushmita proudly explained how amazing the diversity of India was to the rest of the world. With her stunning performance in all the arrays, she reached the finals without any surprises. And here’s what she was asked during the final question-answer round for which she gave an amazingly honest answer.

Question: What is the essence of being a woman?

Answered by Sushmita as: “Just being a woman is God’s gift that all of us must appreciate. The origin of a child is a mother and is a woman. She shows a man what sharing, caring and loving is all about. That is the essence of a woman. ”

2. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

The gem-eyed, Mangalorean beauty Aishwarya too participated in the Femina Miss India 1994. However, she was placed second in the contest right below the winner, Sushmita Sen. Being the 1st runner up, Aishwarya went on to represent India in the Miss World pageant and she brought home the second crown for the country in the same year. Considered as one of the most beautiful women in the world, Aishwarya proved that her true beauty is within her heart and personality. Here’s what was asked to Aishwarya during her final round.

Question: What qualities should Miss World 1994 embody?

Answered by Aishwarya as: “The Miss World’s that we have had till date, have been proof enough that they have had compassion, compassion for the underprivileged, not only for the people for who have status and stature, who can look beyond the barriers that man has set up for ourselves of nationality, color. We have to look beyond that and that will make a true Miss World, a true person, a real person. Thank you!

3. Lara Dutta

The beautiful Lara Dutta is the second Indian woman to get crowned as Miss Universe and she won the pageant in the year 2000. From what we know, the question that Lara was asked to answer was quite a difficult one. However, she managed to answer it with utmost brilliance and charm which won her all praises.

Question: Right now there is a protest going on right outside here calling the Miss Universe Pageant disrespectful of women. Convince them they are wrong.

Answered by Lara as: “I think pageants like the Miss Universe pageant gives us young women a platform to foray in the fields that we want to and forge ahead, be it entrepreneurship, be it the armed force, be it politics. It gives us a platform to voice our choices and opinions, and makes us strong, independent that we are today.”

4. Priyanka Chopra

Bollywood’s pride in Hollywood, PC started it all with modeling. Priyanka was crowned as Miss World in the year 2000. The same year, Dia Mirza was crowned as Miss Asia Pacific (triple jackpot!). Priyanka was asked a rather creative question which aimed to asses her value sets and she definitely nailed this one with her answer!

Question: “If you were a police officer in the garden of Eden, who would you punish for the original sin: Adam, Eve, or the serpent?”

Answered by Priyanka As: “If I was the police officer in the garden of Eden, I would punish Satan, the serpent, because I believe that evil is instigated, not created. Eve thought Satan was right. She believed him. Let us get a moral from this: to decipher between good and bad, without being biased.”

5. Manushi Chhillar

India had to wait for a very long time before we got another Miss World Crown into its satchel. And finally, the beauty gods decided to be kind in 2017 because they couldn’t turn a deaf ear to this answer by the stunning Manushi Chhillar.

Question: “Which profession, according to you, deserves the highest salary and why?’’

Answered by Manushi as: “Since I am very close to my mother, a mother deserves the highest respect. And when you talk about salary… I don’t think it’s just about cash but I feel it’s the love and respect that you give to someone. And I think my mom has always been the biggest inspiration in my life and all mothers they just sacrifice so much for their kids so the profession which deserves the highest salary, the highest respect and love should be of a mother.”

This list would be incomplete without mentioning Yukta Mookhey, Diana Hayden, and Reita Faria who had also given eargasmic answers that got them the pageant titles. We hope that these women continue to inspire more and more aspirants in the future and they do so in the right way. And we’re sure we’ll be able to add many more names to this list because India is filled with many beautiful eyes that are filled with dreams. Whose answer did you love the most?
