It’s no secret that most Indian households are highly obsessed with Indian TV programs. And it’s no secret that the chemistry shared between reel couples can often be electric. Most of our family dinners feel incomplete without that daily hit of saas-bahu drama and repetitive camera angles. Although we’ll never admit it publicly, most of us lived for the sometimes unrealistic romances portrayed on screen. In secret, we have all loved television couples and wished they were actually dating in real life.
From our favorite Raqesh and Ridhi to Gautam and Smriti, here is a list of our favorite TV serial couples:
1. Ridhi And Raqesh
Yes yes, we know that the couple had split earlier this year. But when they were together, they’ve all made us wonder why we don’t have a love story like theirs. Ridhi and Raqesh met while they were shooting their hit television show, Maryada – Lekin Kab Tak in the year 2010. The on-screen couple hit it off and, and in a flash, they started to date. They turned out to be great companions at first, and love bloomed soon. The couple had been married for around seven years but they recently released an official statement saying they had separated. According to the couple, while they still love and care for each other deeply, they have mutually agreed to separate but will remain friends. While we hate to see them split up, we understand that sometimes things don’t work out the way people plan them.
2. Apurva And Shilpa
This adorable couple acted together on the sets of the show Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi and have been in love ever since. Initially introduced through mutual friends, Shilpa spoke about their first date at a coffee shop and how she was bowled over by Apurva’s romantic capabilities. She admitted that she had a tiny crush on the actor after seeing him in the movie Pardes. Flash forward to thirteen years later, and the pair are still very much in love and together. Guess not all love stories have an ending?
3. Rithvik And Asha
This larger than life couple is not just couple goals but is also major travel goals. When the pair isn’t working, they’re traveling to exotic destinations and exploring different cultures and tourist hotspots. Their social media is filled to the brim with photographs of their numerous adventures as well as loved up pictures. Their love story began on the sets of their show Pavitra Rishta, and we love their gram’ game.
4. Gautam And Smriti
Although this adorable couple met on the sets of their show Meri Aashiqui Tumse Hi, they didn’t start dating until the show went off the air. While their on-screen characters could not tie the knot, the couple themselves plan on doing so very soon. According to Smriti, Gautam proposed to her in the most romantic way ever while they were celebrating his birthday in Goa. We can’t wait for this adorable couple to tie the knot and grace us with striking images of their fairytale wedding.
5. Vivek And Divyanka
This cute celebrity couple, often called “Divek”, shared screen space on Yeh Hai Mohabbatein. The couple tied the knot in July of 2016. Around the time the couple met, Divyanka was going through a bad breakup after she had ended a ten-year-long relationship. Vivek proved to be a true friend and supported her through these dark times. While the couple initially kept their relationship under wraps, they admitted that it was their fans who got them together.
6. Shoaib And Dipika
This television couple has been in the eye of the media for as long as they’ve been in love. Dipika Kakar, who was already married before she entered the entertainment business, petitioned for divorce from her then-husband and many believe that her Sasural Simar Ka co-star, Shoaib Ibrahim was responsible for the divorce. However, this fact is refuted and denied by both parties. After three years of dating the couple revealed they were in a relationship and planned on getting married. The two have also been the centre of controversy after Dipika allegedly insisted on changing her name and converting to Shoaib’s religion.
7. Hiten And Gauri
Often branded as the OG couple of Indian television screens, Hiten and Gauri met on the sets of an advertisement. They were introduced by the agency that hired them, and the duo kept in touch and became close friends. The couple shared screen space on the TV show Kutumb. Due to the fact that Hiten was married in the past, Gauri was a little hesitant to get married quickly, and the couple took their own sweet time with their relationship. Hiten had had an arranged marriage previously and reflecting on his experience with Gauri, stated that he believes you have to be in love with someone to marry them. The couple has now been married for fourteen years and share two eight-year-old twins with each other. The couple often takes to the gram to share adorable images of their twins.
